Traditional Mallorcan cuisine is heavily reliant on local ingredients like pork, fish and vegetables. Garlic and olive oil are used extensively in nearly all dishes.

Some classic Mallorcan dishes include: llom amb col (pork wrapped in cabbage); lechona asada (roast suckling pig); and paella ciega (blind man's paella). Paella is not technically a Mallorcan dish but it’s very popular and can be found all over the island.

Oddly, the fish here is mostly imported and frozen. Make sure you try the lobster, prawns, sardines and sea bass - they’re delicious! Sea Bass, in particular, is a speciality on the island.

For desert, try the gato de almendras (almond cake served with toasted almond ice-cream) or the ensaimadas, (spiral-shaped pastries sprinkled with sugar and filled with anything from pumpkin jam to sobrasada sausage).


Some of the more popular cheeses on the island include; Mahon from Menorca and Manchego from central Spain.
